Pet-Friendly in Lebanon: Our Rules for Dogs at Horizon Pines

A quick disclosure first: we run Horizon Pines, a camping and glamping site in Kobayat, Akkar, and yes, pets are welcome here. This post sets out our rules, what we still need to confirm, and some general tips for bringing a dog to a pine forest in the mountains.

If you have been searching for pet-friendly places in Lebanon, you will know the problem: many listings do not say either way, and you only find out when you ask. So here is our position in plain words.

Pets are welcome as long as they are not very noisy. A dog that barks for long stretches will disturb other guests, and sound carries between the trees.

Keep them leashed in shared areas. That includes the paths, the shared bathrooms and kitchen area, the covered meal area and the children's playground. Other guests may be nervous of dogs, and children use the playground.

Clean up after them. Bring bags and dispose of them properly.

Mention the pet when you book. Tell us on WhatsApp or by phone what kind of animal it is, so we can confirm the arrangements before you arrive.

Quiet time starts at 11:30 PM. No music after that, and it is the time to make sure your dog is settled too.

Every stay, and no extra charge. Quiet pets are welcome in all our stays, including inside the yurts and Lotus Belle tents, not just on camping pitches. There is no pet fee.

Dog-Friendly Camping in Lebanon: Which Stay to Book

Dog-friendly camping in Lebanon is the easiest option in practice, because you are outdoors on your own pitch. Our Family & Friends Camping gives you your own campsite for 2 to 6 people: $10 per guest per night with your own tent, or $15 with a tent and mattress provided. Guests in the yurts ($120 per night for 2+ nights, $150 for one night) and Lotus Belle tents ($60 per night) are welcome to bring a quiet pet too, at no extra charge.

If you were looking for a pet-friendly chalet or a pet-friendly hotel in Lebanon, it is worth being clear about what we are. We have yurts, canvas tents and camping, not hotel rooms. We are building chalets, but they are not open yet and we have no details to share; ask on WhatsApp if you want to hear when they open.

Some practical points about the site that matter with a dog:

Water. Our tap water is not drinkable, so bring drinking water for yourself and your dog.

Fire. The site has fire pits and BBQ stations, and the pine forest is dry in summer. Keep your dog well clear of anything lit and of hot grills.

Getting here. Kobayat is about 2 hours from Beirut and about 30 minutes from Tripoli, so plan a stop on the way. Parking is free inside our gated grounds.

Health. We have first aid on site for people, and the nearest hospital is 1 km away. The nearest vet is about 2 km from the site.

Camping With a Dog in a Pine Forest: General Tips

These are general tips for any dog owner heading to a pine forest at altitude. They are things to keep in mind, not a description of any hazard on our site.

Water and shade. Dogs heat up faster than people. Carry a bowl and plenty of water, and let them rest in the shade during the middle of the day.

Hot ground. Stone, paving and tarmac in direct summer sun can get hot enough to hurt paws. Test the surface with the back of your hand, and walk early or late in the day.

Ticks. Forests and long grass anywhere can carry ticks. Check your dog's coat, ears and paws after walks, and ask your vet about protection before the trip.

Cooler nights. At about 1,100 metres, nights are cooler than on the coast. Bring a warm layer for yourself and a blanket or bed for your dog.

Their own bed and lead. A familiar blanket helps a dog settle in a new place. Bring a spare lead and a tie-out if you plan to sit outside.

Walks. The forest paths around the site are the easiest walking, on the lead in shared areas. For longer walks, see our hiking from Kobayat post and always ask locally about current access and conditions.

Other guests. Not everyone is comfortable around dogs. A leashed, quiet dog is what keeps a site pet-friendly for everyone.

We are open in spring, summer and autumn, roughly April to October. Book by WhatsApp or phone; a 50% deposit reserves the stay. For more on camping with children as well as a dog, see our family camping guide.
