Where to Stay in Kobayat: Chalets, Hotels, Bungalows and More

A quick disclosure first: we run Horizon Pines, a glamping and camping site in Kobayat, Akkar. So this is an operator's guide to where to stay in Kobayat and the wider area, not a neutral directory. We will not name or rate other places. What we can do is explain the types of stay people search for, what each usually gives you, and set out exactly what we offer so you have one concrete reference point.

People looking for places to stay in North Lebanon usually search for one of five words: chalet, hotel, bungalow, glamping or camping. The same word can mean different things from one listing to the next, so it helps to know what to ask.

Chalets. People searching for chalets in Kobayat or chalets in Akkar are usually after a self-contained place of their own: a bedroom or two, a bathroom, a kitchen and somewhere to sit outside, rented by the night or the weekend. What is included varies a lot, so ask about bedding, towels, cooking equipment and how many people it really sleeps.

Hotels and guesthouses. A hotel in Kobayat or anywhere in Akkar gives you a room with a bathroom and made-up beds, and someone to deal with when you arrive. Some serve meals. You usually do not get a kitchen or much private outdoor space, and a family may need more than one room.

Bungalows and cabins. "Bungalow" is a loose word. In listings it can describe anything from a simple wooden room to a small, fully equipped cottage. Ask whether the bathroom is private, whether there is a kitchen, and what the setting is actually like.

Glamping. A furnished tent or yurt with a real bed, set outdoors. The comfort level depends mostly on the bathroom and the cooking arrangements. Our guide to choosing a glamping stay goes through the questions in detail.

Camping. Your own tent on a pitch, with shared facilities. The lowest cost, and the most flexible for families and groups. If it is your first time, see our first-timer's guide to camping in Akkar.

What you can book at Horizon Pines today: a Premium Yurt, a Lotus Belle tent or a family camping pitch.

What We Offer Today, and Why Chalet Hunters Often Pick a Yurt

Here is what you can book with us today; all of it is open now.

Premium Yurts. Round, 24 ft across, with insulated walls, six large windows, a ceiling fan and a central skylight. Each has a real double bed plus a sofa that converts to a second double, a private bathroom with a hot shower, a kitchenette with a fridge, and a private terrace. A yurt sleeps 4 adults, or up to 6 when two of the guests are children. $120 per night for stays of 2 nights or more; $150 for a single night.

Lotus Belle tents. A round canvas glamping tent with a centre pole, a furnished interior and a private porch facing the pines. Beds are made on arrival. Each tent has a private bathroom next door with a toilet, hot shower and sink, and guests use the shared kitchen area. Sleeps 3 adults, or 4 when the fourth is a child under 10. $60 per tent per night.

Family & Friends Camping. Your own campsite for 2 to 6 people: $10 per guest per night with your own tent, or $15 per guest with a tent and mattress provided. There is a playground for children.

Group & Scout Camping. 20 to 120 people, from $10 per guest per night, with exclusive bookings possible.

Many of our guests first went looking for a chalet and ended up booking a yurt. The reasons are practical as much as anything. A yurt covers most of what people want from a chalet: a private bathroom, a kitchenette, a proper double bed plus a sofa-bed, and a terrace of your own. The difference is the setting. The yurts sit inside existing pine forest at about 1,100 metres, among stone paths and terraces, and at night you get a dark sky that is good for stargazing. For a lot of people that turns out to be the point of the trip.

Chalets at Horizon Pines. We are building chalets now. They are not open yet, and we have no details to share here. If you would like to know when they open, ask us on WhatsApp.

Practical Notes for Places to Stay in North Lebanon

Wherever you end up staying, a few things make a trip to Kobayat and Akkar easier.

Getting here. Kobayat is about 2 hours from Beirut, roughly 135 to 140 km via the Tripoli highway and Halba, and about 30 minutes from Tripoli. We are just below Mar Gerges Chwita. The last stretch of road to us is a little rough, but an ordinary car manages it; you do not need a 4x4. Parking is free inside our gated grounds.

Shopping and fuel. Do your main food shop before the mountain road and fill up with fuel on the way. At our site, guests bring and cook their own food, using the fire pits, BBQ stations and shared kitchen area. Our tap water is not drinkable, so bring drinking water.

Cash and payment. Assume smaller businesses in the area are cash-only. We take cash, OMT, Whish, PayPal and Wise, and all our rates are in US dollars. A 50% deposit reserves a stay, and cancellations are accepted at least 7 days before arrival.

Signal. We have good 4G coverage but no Wi-Fi. Signal is weaker away from the village, so download offline maps before you set out.

Cooler nights. At about 1,100 metres, nights are cooler than on the coast, even in summer. Bring a warm layer.

Seasons. We are open in spring, summer and autumn, roughly April to October, and closed in winter. Summer is also when the village holds the Kobayat Festival. Our season-by-season guide helps with timing, and the weekend from Beirut post shows how a two-night stay fits together.

Check-in is from 3:00 PM (late arrivals until 10:00 PM) and check-out 11:00 AM, and a single night is welcome. We are rated 5.0 on Google.
